Sun Princess is the first vessel in the line's 59-year history to have a large grouping of suites — 50 in all, ranging in size from a relatively modest 304 square feet (for what's known as a Signature Penthouse Suite) to a sprawling 1,260 square feet (for a Signature Sky Suite).

Signature Lounge
Other small changes aboard Sun Princess are still present, including the renaming of Kai Sushi by Makoto to Makoto Ocean -- a last-minute change that will require the ship's signage to be swapped out at some point. Until then, the venue is referred to by both terms depending on which source you read (the website, deck plan or Princess Patter). Windows grace nearly every public room, flooding them with natural light and sea views that are both appreciated and, these days, increasingly rare on big ships that tend to be quite inward-facing. Aboard Sun Princess, the vibe at The Piazza is all about Zumba classes, interactive gameshows, vocal performances and other high-energy events throughout the day. The Signature Restaurant, exclusive to suite guests, is in a busy (and noisy) public area off the ship's central Piazza on Deck 7, far from most of the biggest suites. Several other cabin categories on the ship, including Premium Oceanview and Interior cabins, have a similar look and features but lack a balcony.
The Sun Princess Deck Plan Includes New Spaces, Experiences
Alas, it's a venue marred by its location, as the noise from entertainment in the Piazza is overwhelming. While I dined, there was the cacophony of a live game show with cheering crowds taking place just steps away, followed soon after by a high-volume tribute to Motown. Neon Grove and The Underground have all the sorts of games your tweens and teens will love, from PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch consoles to foosball and air hockey tables, and they're home to movie and disco nights, scavenger hunts and the like.
The Most Relaxing Accommodations at Sea

Introducing Love by Britto, created in partnership with Romero Britto, the world-renowned artist known for his bold, colorful and joyful style. This artistic-inspired experience aboard Sun Princess® celebrates the love of life through colorful design and an imaginative prix fixe menu curated by culinary virtuoso Rudi Sodamin. Pool deck spaces are wide and numerous, and the ship's top-deck areas are generous enough to handle the number of people onboard.
You'll love it to the sun and back
All cabins, from cozy insides to spacious oceanview and balcony staterooms, and lavish suites, have been completely redesigned from the ground up. They offer improved bathrooms and closet storage spaces, more electrical outlets, an entirely new décor scheme and – most importantly – more living space. Lounge & Bar (deck 7) is a TV studio for the Princess Cruises' shipboard live TV show programming (spots and music performances) filmed each day to be broadcast to the passenger staterooms. The venue is redesigned and expanded (combines the design elements of Princess Live! and Explorer's Lounge), with full bar/beverage service, a stage (with a large LED screen) and is served by the Gelateria (fka Affogato Bar).

The Venues of The Piazza
The Sanctuary (aft on Deck 18) is the ship's adults-only sundeck/recreation area with luxury chaise lounges, its own swimming pool and a spa pool/hot tub, and is served by the open-air Sanctuary Bar (light meals/steward service). The Sanctuary is also fitted with private 4-guest outdoor cabanas (spa massages, Royal Indulgence Package/surcharges PP apply). Promenade Deck (deck 9) is an open-air space (running from midship to aft/stern, portside and starboard) with outdoor seating/alfresco dining areas. Sabatini's Italian Trattoria is a specialty dining venue that also appeals to families with its handmade pasta dishes. The restaurant has a circular main room (with bistro-style nooks) and a separate pasta room where guests can witness the pasta-making process. In these all-new spaces, all you gotta do to recharge is take in the ocean vistas.
The Marketplace offers different themed cuisine for lunch and also dinner specials. The restaurant's annexes include Crab Shack (seafood bar), Fondues (cheese bar), The Pastry Shop (self-service patisserie, with complimentary desserts), and the food counter "East Meets West". Another new venue is the Spellbound by Magic Castle - a Victorian era/19th-century British Empire-inspired bar lounge themed after Hollywood’s Magic Castle in Los Angeles (reservations-only private clubhouse for the Academy of Magical Arts). Located on Deck 8 (forward-portside, adjacent to Princess Casino), Spellbound is served by professional mixologists and with live performances from world-class magicians.
But with Sun Princess, the line is making a big move to make families with younger kids feel more welcome, even if they're still not the target market. Princess Cruises’ largest ship ever - Sun Princess – will make her U.S. debut in October 2024 providing the ultimate vacations to favorite Caribbean destinations on seven- and 14-day itineraries out of Ft Lauderdale, Fla. The ship is the first in the line’s new Sphere class, and will homeport at Port Everglades for the winter, following a season of Mediterranean and Europe cruises when she launches in February 2024. Being a bigger, larger and more feature-laden ship, Sun Princess attracts a somewhat younger demographic than older Princess ships, with most passengers running between 45 and 65 years of age. More families can be found aboard Sun Princess, though many have teenaged or grown adult children or extended families as opposed to small children. Passengers are usually curious about the world, and may have cruised before – though not necessarily with Princess.
The outward and suspended Sphere, the namesake of this new class of ship, takes the central Piazza hub of the ship into a new dimension. Guests are enveloped with expansive ocean views and an open concept, inspired to deliver the desired lifestyle of relaxed indoor and outdoor living. Even if views overlook a lifeboat or a technical deck, we love to see Princess' Cruises commitment to the sea expand to its newest vessel. In many ways, Sun Princess offers more views of the sea than the line's previous Royal -class ships. If Princess ships have a signature element, it is The Piazza, a central atrium-like space found on most Princess ships that serves as a sort of town square. You'll typically find an espresso drink-serving, conducive-to-conversation cafe at the base of each of these spaces and other venues for conversation, such as wine and Champagne bars, plus a few shops.
It takes a ‘rip-the-Band-Aid-off’ approach to innovation, offering up a complete re imagining of the brand that has long promised a vacation that’s “exciting and new”, just like the theme song from the 1970’s TV series, The Love Boat, suggests. The Transatlantic relocation cruise (16-day "Iberian Passage" itinerary from Southampton to Fort Lauderdale) departs on Sept 23, 2024, and visits Portland England, Vigo Spain, Funchal Madeira Portugal, and Tenerife Canary Islands Spain. Due to delayed delivery, the Maiden Voyage (initially scheduled to depart from Barcelona on February 8, 2024) was canceled and rescheduled twice - for Feb 18th and eventually Feb 28th. Our most technologically advanced performance space can shapeshift into different designs, even in the round, to suit all our new production shows. We pondered everything, so you can feel the love on the cruise vacation of your dreams.
As I am seeing this week during one of the first sailings of the still-not-quite-finished, 4,300-passenger vessel, its design marks a turn for the line as it tries to appeal to a younger audience and more "new to cruise" customers who might not have considered the brand before. Inaugural 2024 Sun Princess cruises to the Mediterranean and Europe are currently on sale, and Caribbean voyages will go on sale April 19, 2023. Serving as a nursery/group babysitting venue, Firefly Park has a dedicated playground and offers after-hours babysitting (between 10 pm - 1 am). The babysitting service costs US$5 (per hour/per kid) and is available for children ages 3 to 12. Unlike the preceding ROYAL Class, the new Princess SPHERE ships have oceanview cabins, each fitted with a large non-opening Picture Window. Family & Kids Park19, the most engaging family activity zone ever featured on a Princess ship, features nine activities for the entire family to enjoy in a newly envisioned space perfect for fun and sun for all generations.
Relaxation and Wellness In these all-new spaces, guests can recharge by simply taking in the ocean vistas around them. The Sea View Terrace sets the tone at the front of the ship, while the new Wake View Terrace features an infinity pool and unparalleled views. The two-story Lotus Spa and Lotus Salon offer relaxing treatments and services for guests to enjoy any time during their voyage.
The emphasis here is on fast, quick and casual meals that still offer table service. It’s a great addition for those who want a sit-down dinner without devoting the time needed for the more traditional experience at Horizons. The Horizons Dining Room on Decks 6 and 7 is a spectacular space overlooking a bank of two-story windows that wrap attractively around the stern of the ship. Horizons on Deck 6 is for those passengers that have selected traditional early or late seating dining. Passengers without set dining reservations can make reservations, or walk-in, on the Deck 7 level of Horizons.
